UNIUYO Programme Duration by Faculty and Entry Mode

UNIUYO degree programmes run for between 3 and 6 years, depending on the course and how you were admitted. Most Arts, Social Sciences and Education courses take 4 years by UTME; Engineering, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Law and Computer Science take 5 years; Architecture takes 6 years. Direct Entry candidates skip the first year and start in year two.

The academic year runs in two semesters. Each semester is normally 15 weeks of teaching plus two weeks of examinations.

Direct Entry candidates are admitted into the second year of a degree programme, so their time on campus is normally one year shorter than the UTME route.

Maximum time allowed

You cannot stay indefinitely. Students may remain for a limited number of extra years beyond the minimum:

• A 4-year programme: up to 2 additional years.
• A 5-year programme: up to 2 years and one semester (about two and a half extra years).

Failure to complete within the allowed period attracts withdrawal from the University.

Sub-degree and continuing education programmes

• Certificate (full-time): 1 year
• Certificate (part-time): 2 years
• Diploma (full-time): 2 years
• Diploma (part-time): 3 years

Postgraduate programmes

• A programme requiring 1 year on a regular basis: 1½ years minimum
• A programme requiring 2 years: up to 3 years
• A programme requiring 3 years: up to 4 years

Conditions for graduation

The final award and its class are based on the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) a candidate earns across all prescribed courses, calculated on the total number of course units registered over the whole programme. Degrees are classified as follows, as of the last official regulations:
