UNIUYO School of Continuing Education (SCE) Admission Guide

The University of Uyo School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (SCE/SCEPS) runs part-time and sub-degree programmes for people who can’t attend full-time. It offers Certificate, Diploma, part-time Bachelor’s degree, Sandwich, and Postgraduate (PGD, Master’s, PhD) programmes. UTME scores are not required for SCE admission, and you apply only through UNIUYO’s official portal — the School has no agents anywhere.

This is a general guide to how SCE admission works. Programme lists and fees are reviewed each session, so always confirm the current details on the official advert before you pay.

What the School of Continuing Education offers

SCE runs five broad streams, cutting across most UNIUYO faculties:

• Certificate programmes (usually one year) — e.g. Certificate in French, Certificate in Fine Arts.
• Diploma programmes (about two years) — e.g. Diploma in Mass Communication, Law, Music, Theatre Arts, Public Administration, Library Science, Computer Science.
• Part-time Bachelor’s degrees — across Arts, Business/Management, Education, Social Sciences and Sciences (Communication Arts, English, Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and more).
• Sandwich degrees — mainly Education (B.A./B.Sc./B.Ed.) programmes taught in intensive vacation blocks.
• Postgraduate programmes — Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s and PhD in selected departments.

The exact list of courses changes from session to session. Treat the above as the shape of what SCE offers, and check the current SCE/SCEPS advert on uniuyo.edu.ng for the programmes open in a given year.

General entry requirements

Requirements are set by level and by department, but the general minimums are:

Level	Minimum O’level requirement
Certificate	At least three (3) credit passes including English Language (WASC/NECO/GCE or equivalent), at most two sittings.
Diploma	At least four (4) credit passes including English Language, at most two sittings.
Part-time Bachelor’s / Sandwich	At least five (5) credit passes including English Language and, for most courses, Mathematics — plus the specific departmental subjects. Some Arts courses (e.g. Music, Religious Studies, History, English) do not require Mathematics.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)	A first degree from UNIUYO or a recognised university (or an HND at Lower Credit) in a related field.
Master’s	A Bachelor’s degree, usually not below Second Class Lower, or a relevant PGD.

Direct Entry is available for degree programmes on the strength of A/Level papers, NCE, National Diploma or an equivalent, alongside the five O’level credits. Application fees

Fees are non-refundable and are reviewed each session. As of UNIUYO’s last published SCEPS advert (2024/2025 session), the application fees were:

How to apply

All SCE payments and applications go through Remita and UNIUYO’s official portal — the School has no admission agents or consultants anywhere, so ignore any cybercafé or WhatsApp contact selling forms.

1. Start at uniuyo.edu.ng and follow the e-Portals / Admissions link (the application portal is at admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng).
2. Select the SCE/SCEPS admission form and your programme type (Certificate, Diploma, Part-Time UTME/DE, Sandwich, PGD, Master’s or Doctorate).
3. Generate your Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) and pay the application fee online or at any bank branch. Our guide to paying UNIUYO fees on Remita walks through this.
4. Return to the portal, register with the credentials generated, and complete the form — uploading your documents and passport photograph as instructed.
5. Print your acknowledgement/registration slip and, where required, submit photocopies of your credentials to the Admissions Unit, School of Continuing Education, University of Uyo, P.M.B. 1017, Uyo.

Part-time undergraduate applicants also register their programme choice through the JAMB e-facility at jamb.gov.ng. Application usually closes several weeks after the advert is published, and admission lists appear on the UNIUYO portal — keep checking your UNIUYO student portal account.

Postgraduate applicants
