The regional interventionist agency, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is to commission a 522-bed modern hostel built at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The hostel has been completed and would be commissioned before the end of this month.
Speaking after a pre-commissioning inspection of the proto-type hostel, NDDC Managing Director, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia, said the contractor was ready to hand over the project in the next one week.
Dan-Abia said the NDDC Governing Board decided at its last meeting that all recently completed projects spread across the Niger Delta region should be formally inaugurated as soon as possible.
The NDDC boss said the commission has made a conscious decision on the completion of all on-going projects rather than awarding fresh contracts, adding that as an interventionist’s agency of the Federal Government, providing hostels for students in universities and polytechnics was an important contribution to the building of human capital in the Niger Delta.
